Douglas F. "Cap" McArthur passed away in Fairfax on Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at the age of 75.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Karr of Cedar Rapids and Michele (Ron) Thatcher of Davison, Mich.; grandchildren, Ian, Mac, Haley (Aaron), Alyssa, Olivia, Tristen and Kayla; one sister, Marilyn (Richard) Beauregard of Cedar Rapids; niece, Andrea (Eric) Jons; and nephew, Jeff (Carmen) Beauregard.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Marguerite (Vorel) and Edward Schlotterbeck; his father, Max McArthur; and grandfather, Zach McArthur.
Cap was born March 11, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Marguerite and Max McArthur. He grew up in Fairfax. He worked at Iowa Steel for 22 years and Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation for 28 years. Cap loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He traveled across the country on his motorcycle visiting 48 states and had many great stories of time spent with friends. Cap was known for always having a joke to tell.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cap's life.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
