Joanne Marie Kalina, 83, went home to be with Jesus her Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Des Moines.

Joanne was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Independence, Iowa, to Louis and Laura Weber. She married Sylvester "Pete" Kalina on Oct. 23, 1954. Together they shared 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Joanne worked for Armstrong's in Cedar Rapids in the jewelry department for 20 years. She relocated to Pleasant Hill recently to be closer to family. Joanne adored her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Oakwood Assembly in Pleasant Hill.

Joanne is survived by her children, Steven (Alison), Kurtis (Janie), Lisa Hill (Doug), Holli Short (John) and Heidi Short (Ed); 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings, Georgia Hamilton (Bill), Marjorie Lappe and Dave Weber (Judy); sister-in-law, Joyce Weber; and a host of beloved extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester "Pete" Kalina; her parents, Louis and Laura Weber; and her brother, Dale Weber.

There will be a service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 28, at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines. Visitation will be for an hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow at Oakwood Assembly, 4450 E. Oakwood Dr., Pleasant Hill. A second visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will also follow these services at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
