Virgil "Pete" Facion, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends and relatives from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Covenant Seventh-day Adventist Church, 601 Old Marion Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Pastor Richard W. Palmer Jr. will officiate. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Pete was born Jan. 27, 1935, in Atwood, Tenn., the son of Bennie and Hildra (Clark) Facion. He graduated from high school in Martin, Tenn. Shortly after graduation, Pete moved to Cedar Rapids and found steady work. Soon after moving, he met and married his wife, Betty Jean (Bright) Facion, on March 16, 1956. They were married for 61 glorious years. Pete worked at Penford for 41 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of Covenant Seventh-day Adventist Church and served as head deacon. He enjoyed gardening and night fishing with his wife, Betty. Pete was the type of man who never met a stranger.
Pete is survived by his wife, Betty; three sons, David Sr. (Cindee) Facion, Mark (Tammy) Facion and Earnest (Jackie) Jordan; two daughters, Audrey Smith and Angie Washpun; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Facion and Hildra Washington; and two special uncles, Belvis Clark and Roosevelt Clark.
