Stanley Lee Lown was born June 7, 1927, near North English, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Ila (Johnston) Lown. He graduated from North English High School and served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. On Feb. 12, 1949, Stanley was united in marriage to Bevaline Stewart at the Christian Church parsonage in North English. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in the North English area. Stanley was a member of the Christian Church and served on the Union Country School board, Keokuk County Farm Bureau board, Keokuk County Pork and Beef boards, North English American Legion and North English Scout Creamery, school and telephone boards. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan.
Stanley died Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the English Valley Care Center, North English, at the age of 88 years.
He is survived by his wife, Bev of South English; three sons, Randy of Mount Pleasant, Wis., Ron (Kendra) of Walford and Rick of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Brian (Natasha) Lown, Jaime (Jerome) Young, Ryann (Alex) Lehnertz, Ashley (Mike) Cauliflower, Bradley (Courtney) Lown and Breanne Lown; nine great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Cathi Lown of Roseville, Calif.; brother, Larry (Margaret) Lown of North English; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; son, Roger; brother, Melvin; and sister, Frances.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Luke Caster will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home.
A memorial fund has been established for the North English Christian Church or North English QRS.
