Dakins, Daniel E. 'Dan'
Daniel E. “Dan” Dakins passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the age of 57. Services are pending at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing.
Dan is survived by his wife, Kay Gustafson Dakins of Iowa City; brothers, Jim Dakins (Sallie) of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., and Mark Dakins of Corneilus, Ore.; sister, Maxine Dakins of Idaho Falls, Idaho; aunt, Bernadine Schaefer of Zearing, Iowa; nephews, Doug Dakins (Kristin), Mike Powell and David Powell; and niece, Alisa Costello (Chad).
Dan was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Lucile Dakins; and sister, Bethany Kay Powell.
Dan graduated from NESCO High School in Zearing and attended the University of Iowa. He was employed at Pleasant Valley Garden Center in Iowa City, where he had served as a Garden Center manager and a landscape professional for more than 20 years. He loved people, the outdoors and all of its plants, birds and animals.
Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, the Iowa Arboretum, and the Diabetes Society of America.
