Susan M. Holderness, 63, of rural Keota, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.

Susan Maxine Powell was born March 14, 1954, in Mountain Home, Ark., the daughter of Cecil R. Powell Sr. and Myrtle L. (Gerstenberger) Powell. She graduated from Linn-Mar High School in Marion and spent many years working at University of Iowa Hospital School with disabled children. Before that career, she worked at ACT, Hills Elementary School and Atrium Village. On June 24, 1972, Susan married John E. Holderness in Iowa City and together they had two children.
She had enjoyed time spent working in her flower gardens, doing craft projects, hanging out with her family, especially her grandchildren, listening to music and sharing her home with her dogs.
Her family includes her children, John Holderness of Iowa City and Christine Holderness (Terry Dunning) of Keota; grandchildren, Jazmyn and Johnathan Holderness, Jarrod Keller, Quinton Cook and Hunter Cook; her siblings, Louise Schonrock (Art) of Sioux City, Cecil Powell Jr. of Rogers, Minn., Eugene Powell (Janet) of Cedar Rapids, Pat Hash (Bruce) of Missouri and Sonya Schwab (Mike) of Cedar Rapids; stepbrother, Greg Tish of Malcom; and brother-in-law, Jeff Jensen (Aggie) of Riverside; as well as John's family and numerous extended family members.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, in 1997; and sister, Mary Jensen.
