Jan was born in Moline, Ill., on June 19, 1937, to Carl and Margaret (Versluis) Johnson. She attended and graduated from Moline High School, Class of 1955. Jan was united in marriage to John in Moline on June 13, 1959, before moving to Bennett, where they spent many years before moving to Tipton in 1973. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Sheri and Julie.
Earlier years of Jan's were spent being a homemaker, mother and farmwife until her later years of employment with Wal-Mart, most of which were spent at the Tipton store. Taking vacations with John and dancing were a couple of things Jan cherished most, until she became a grandma. Undoubtedly, they were her pride and joy.
Jan was a past member of St. Mary's Guild and a current member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Jan is survived by her husband, John Powell; daughters, Sheri Huprich of West Point and Julie Powell of Tipton; sisters, Carol Johnson, Bonnie Bradford and Marcia Grchan, all of Moline; brothers, Robert Johnson of Moline and Craig (Adonna) Johnson of Arizona; grandchildren, Chris (Amber) Cantonwine, Angie (John) Charbonneau, Ryan (Cindy Johnson) Cantonwine and Jared Huprich; six great-grandchildren; a great-great- grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Walter Huprich; nephew; two brothers-in-law; several aunts and uncles; and mother- and father-in-law.
