Fun Facts: Wisconsin-Iowa, Ashton Kutcher edition

Oct. 20, 2016 12:36 pm
It's Wisconsin, with a two-game losing streak. It's Iowa, with a two-game home losing streak.
Those are Un-Fun Facts. That's not why we're here. We're here to leave a better world than the one we inherited. And to enjoy some Fun Facts.
1. Iowa hasn't been an underdog at home since it played Wisconsin in 2014. That was 13 home games ago.
2. The visiting team has won the last five games in this series, and seven of the last nine.
3. Wisconsin hasn't lost by more than seven points in its last 50 Big Ten regular-season games. It's 37-13 in that time.
4. Iowa's 10-6 win at Wisconsin last year was the first time the Hawkeyes held a Big Ten team without a touchdown since doing it to Penn State in 2010.
5. Iowa's Desmond King has three career interception returns for touchdowns, tying Tom Knight for the school's record.
6. Wisconsin senior Corey Clement has 2,200 career rushing yards, but his total against Iowa is one carry for minus-1 yards.
7. With Akrum Wadley (592 yards) and LeShun Daniels (589), Iowa is one of seven FBS teams with two 500-yard rushers. The others are South Florida, Western Michigan, Louisville, Auburn, Texas A&M and New Mexico.
8. The Hawkeyes are tied for first in FBS in fewest lost fumbles, with one. Western Michigan is in that group of teams, too. Western Michigan is good.
9. Wisconsin is 10th in both major polls. This is the first time a ranked FBS team was the visitor in Kinnick Stadium since Wisconsin brought its No. 14 ranking in 2014. Iowa's last home win over a ranked team was its 24-16 victory over No. 13 Michigan in 2011.
10. Both teams have played four games that were decided by one score, and are 2-2 in them. In hindsight, it's surprising one of Wisconsin's four one-score games was against Georgia State and one of Iowa's is against Rutgers. The rest of Georgia State's four losses and Rutgers' four losses were by greater margins.
11. In the last three Wisconsin-Iowa games at Kinnick Stadium, the team that gained the most yards was the loser.
12. Brian Griese will be the color commentator for ESPN's telecast of this game. He threw three touchdown passes and ran for another in Michigan's 28-24 home win over Iowa in 1997. The Wolverines went 12-0 that year and were Associated Press' national champion.
13. The U.S. Postal Service has post offices in 25 towns named Madison. Iowa doesn't have one of them, but it has a city called Fort Madison and a Madison County. The bridges of Madison County are a bit famous. Less known but just as vital is the 89-year-old Fort Madison Toll Bridge.
14. Iowa has a town called Badger.
15. Wisconsin has a town called Diaperville.
16. The sitcom 'That '70s Show' was set in Wisconsin, but Ashton Kutcher (who played Michael Kelso on the series) is from Iowa and is a Hawkeyes fan.
17. Wisconsin Coach Paul Chryst's birthday is Nov. 17, the same day as Rachel McAdams.
18. Nebraska plays at Wisconsin next Saturday. Nebraskans who will drive to that game have to pass through Iowa unless they take a really weird route.
