Walker, Blanche Marie Sinclair
Blanche Marie Sinclair Walker, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died at Higley Mansion on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Gary Hoyt. Interment: Linwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Blanche is survived by daughter, Linda (Conrad) Adam of Kalispell, Mont.; four grandchildren, Charles (Amy) Adam of Boise, Idaho, Chris (Tonya) Adam of Billings, Mont., Sara (Bob) Morlan of Oxford and Chad Kirchner of North Liberty; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan Adam and Thomas Morlan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; daughter, Mary Jean Nelson Kirchner; brother, David Sinclair; and great-grandson, Garrett Adam.
Blanche was born June 16, 1914, in Oelwein, to George and Nellie Sinclair. She graduated from Grant High School. She attended Cedar Rapids Business School and later received an associate degree from Kirkwood Community College. Blanche married Roy Walker on Nov. 30, 1935. He died in 1986. Blanche was executive secretary for the Board of Realtors for seven years, for the mayor of Cedar Rapids for four years and for the commissioner of Public Safety for seven years. She also served as secretary for various other boards and commissions for the city of Cedar Rapids.
Blanche was an active volunteer. She volunteered at Mercy Medical Center with over 5,000 hours, as well as a member of the Mercy Auxiliary. She was a past president for American Business Women's Association and National Secretaries Association. Blanche was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. Her hobbies included gardening, nature study, sewing, and quilt making for which she received blue ribbons at the State Fair and All-Iowa Fair.
