Robert R. Lehmkuhl, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brad Brown. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday at Grove Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Judy; two sons, Monte (Darla) of Williamsburg and Nick (Lisa) of Troy, Mo.; his daughter, Kari (Mick) Nelson of Waukee; 12 grandchildren, Ryanne (Chris) Dunlap,
Katie (Jessey) Rhodes, Tim Nelson, Ben Lehmkuhl,
Abby Nelson, Chris Lehmkuhl, Haley Lehmkuhl, Jacob Lehmkuhl, Isaac Lehmkuhl, Sara Nelson, Hannah Lehmkuhl and Noah Lehmkuhl; in-laws, Connie Rommel and Dennis and Mary Jo Juel, all
of Waterloo; and nieces and nephews, Devin Juel and family, Mindi Slaymaker and family, Daniel Juel, Micah Juel and Pam Schloman and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chuck; and his in-laws, Bud and Ethyl Rommel.
Bob was born Dec. 29, 1939, at his family's home in Readlyn, the son of Gerhardt and Hulda Poehler Lehmkuhl. He was a 1957 graduate of Readlyn High School. He was a professional drummer with many bands in the Waterloo area. Robert married
Judith Kay Rommel on Dec. 23, 1961, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. In 2004, he retired after 30 years from General Mills. Bob was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and an Army
veteran.
Bob loved spending time with his family and cheering on his grandchildren in their many activities. A favorite pastime for Bob was to fish for walleye on the Mississippi, near Guttenberg.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be
anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 4-7)
