Steele, Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson Steele, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Services: 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Hills Community Church, by the Rev. Dr. Leonard Ranson and the Rev. Kent Landhuis. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jack is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Georganne; daughters, Martha Steele (Robert Felde) of Decorah and Sara (Sidney) Sampson of Edina, Minn.; a son-in-law, Alan (Beth) Brockette of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Chris) Steele of Lincoln, Neb., and Charles (Jeanne) Steele of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Ruthanne Hooper of Scottsbluff, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a daughter, Paula Brockette in 1996.
Jack was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Scottsbluff, Neb., to Joseph Clark and Marie Raymond Steele. Jack was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict, serving from 1948 to 1953. He married Georganne Hulse in Scottsbluff, Neb., on May 27, 1951. He was a supervisor at United Airlines, retiring after 34 years with the company.
Jack was a charter member of Cedar Hills Community Church, VFW and the Elks Club of Scottsbluff, Neb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or Cedar Hills Community Church.
