Lanning, Walter 'Pete'
Walter “Pete” Lanning, 78, of Delhi, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Good Neighbor Home. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Delhi United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Michael Druhl. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home in Earlville. Additional visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Burial, with military honors, will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Delhi.
Pete was born April 29, 1934, in Delhi, the son of Raymond and Olga (Vigness) Lanning. Following graduation from Delhi High School in 1952, Pete served with the United States Navy from December 1952-November 1956. Upon discharge, he returned to Delhi to farm. On March 18, 1967, Walter was united in marriage to Ruth Schenke at First United Methodist Church in Colesburg. They spent their married life farming near Delhi. Pete was a member of Upper Bay Grange, the Delhi United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. Pete enjoyed fishing, playing his banjo and taking the time to visit with people.
Pete is survived by two sons, Michael (Ericia) Lanning of Lamont and David (Delaine) Lanning of Swisher; one granddaughter, Payton; one brother, William Lanning of Delhi; two sisters, Sylvia Czyzewski of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary Ellen (Keith) Holdridge of Minnesota; in-laws, Janet Brockmeyer, Burdette “Bud” (Lavera) Schenke and Robert “Tooney” (Wilma) Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 2005; and his parents, Raymond and Olga Lanning.
