Brecht, Vernon V.
Vernon V. Brecht, 95, died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, with the Rev. Brian Dellaert officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church parish center with a rosary at 7 p.m.
He is survived by two sons, Vince Brecht of Robins, and Ray (Anne) Brecht of Blairstown; his grandchildren, Kim Brecht, Patrick (Rachelle) Brecht, Darcy (Brad) Matheny and Dustin Brecht; several great-grandchildren; and friend, Betty Stewart.
Vernon was born April 10, 1916, at Watkins, Iowa, to John and Helen (Gessner) Brecht. He lived and farmed near Watkins, enjoying much of his life as an auctioneer. He resided at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo near the end of his life. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma; his parents; and sister, Dorothy (Rhinehart) Brecht.
