Dennis M. Cunningham, 59, of Marion, Iowa, passed from this life on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at his home in Marion, surrounded by his family. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dennis' life will be held at
11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at Cornerstone Church, located at 925 Blairs Ferry Road in Marion, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. Dennis' son, the Rev. David Cunningham, will officiate. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. A private committal service will be held at a later date.
Dennis was born on Dec. 30, 1960, the son of Grover and Barbara (Stansbury) Cunningham. During his earlier years, Dennis was involved in scouting and earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He was a 1979 graduate of Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University in 1982.
Dennis was united in marriage to Anne Marie Rickey on Sept. 24, 1988, in Fort Worth, Texas. He spent his entire working career as a Software Engineer, working for various companies. Dennis lastly worked at Collins Aerospace until his illness. He was a faithful servant to God throughout his life. Dennis loved spending time with his family. He was a loving, caring, faithful and devoted husband, father, brother and friend. Dennis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dennis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Anne Cunningham of Marion; three children, Natalie Cunningham of Corydon, David Cunningham (fiancee, Carleigh Studtmann) of Chadwick, Ill., and Bonnie Cunningham of Marion; seven siblings, Mark (Liz) Cunningham, Robin (Joe) Hartman, Jerry Cunningham, Mike Cunningham, twin Danny (Sherrah) Cunningham, Susan Roguz and Barbara (Tom) Collins; and a host of extended family members including in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Barbara Cunningham.
Memorials in Dennis' memory may be made to Cornerstone Church in Marion or a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
