John Patrick Gorman, 80, a longtime resident of Marion, died at his home Saturday, March 21, 2015, following an extended illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. The Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judith; sons, Christopher (Shannon) and Kevin; grandson, Kevin; brother, Thomas; brothers-in-law, David, Jack (Patricia) Richard and James Carstensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace; brothers, James and Robert; and sister, Margaret Boldebuck.
John was born Aug. 14, 1934, in Sioux City and was raised in Elmhurst, Ill. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1952 and Quincy College in 1957. He married Judith Ann Carstensen on Oct. 16, 1966, in Clinton at Sacred Heart Church, and moved to Marion in 1979. He retired from Rockwell Collins as a senior professional staffing specialist.
An avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs fan, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his beagle, Shelby.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice of Mercy in John's name.
