Omann, Larry E.
Larry E. Omann, 68, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A gathering will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave. Memorials may be made to the Larry E. Omann Memorial Fund.
Larry was born on May 28, 1941, in Dallas Center, Iowa, to Lester and Zelpha (Brown) Omann. He graduated from Iowa City High in 1959. He married Janice Marie Null on Aug. 20, 1966, in Monticello, Iowa. Larry worked for Laborers Union Local 309 until joining the Teamsters Union Local 238 as a business agent, where he retired in 1998. He was an active member of the Democratic Party. Larry enjoyed his retirement and his lifetime love of fishing, hunting, landscaping and his special love of time spent with his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jan of Iowa City; two daughters, Julie Omann Brandt (Mike) of Mingo, Iowa, Michelle Gonzales of Newton; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; three siblings, Phillip Doster (Pat) of Urbandale, Delores O'Connor of Raleigh, N.C., Jane Omann of Coralville; and an aunt, Ila Ernst of West Branch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Wolfgang Gonzales.
