Iowa hoops No. 1 in Sagarin ratings; ISU No. 7

Iowa's men's basketball team moved to the top of the Sagarin rankings Sunday morning after pasting instate foe Drake 83-66 Saturday night.
The Hawkeyes (9-1) are ahead of Oklahoma State, Louisville and Villanova, which handed Iowa its only loss in overtime. Iowa State (7-0) ranks seventh after beating Northern Iowa 91-82 in overtime.
The Sagarin rankings are compiled not only by wins and losses, but with strength-of-schedule and margin-of-victory components. Here's how Sagarin explains his rankings:
Iowa ranks third nationally in scoring margin (24.6); fourth in field goal percentage (.364), fifth in scoring (89.3), sixth in rebounding (45.2) and seventh in assists (17.9). Iowa State ranks first in scoring (91.8 points), third in assists (19.9) and fourth in rebounding (46.3).
The Hawkeyes (No. 23 by AP) and Cyclones (No. 17 by AP) get a chance to test their lofting Sagarin rankings at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hilton Coliseum (ESPNU).
