Kernels pick up rain-shortened win at Peoria
Jeff Johnson Apr. 30, 2017 5:19 pm
PEORIA, Ill. — They got one in Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park. Part of one.
Enough of one, if you are the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The Kernels picked up a 1-0 win in the first game of a Midwest League double-header. The game lasted just five innings because of rain, with the nightcap postponed.
It will be made up sometime when Peoria comes to Cedar Rapids for a series in mid-May.
Caleb Hamilton doubled home Lewin Diaz in the fourth inning for the only run. Diaz was hit by a pitch leading off and moved to second base on a Jaylin Davis single.
Starting pitcher Clark Beeker (3-1) went all five innings for the victory. The right-hander allowed just one baserunner, a single by Stefan Trosclair in the second inning, and struck out three.
Cedar Rapids improved its record to 13-10. The Midwest League has Monday off, with the Kernels returning home to begin a three-game series against Lake County on Tuesday night at 6:35.
