His team took home the top prize in NJCAA Division II basketball in March, and now Bryan Petersen has been recognized individually.
The Kirkwood coach was named NJCAA D-II men's basketball coach of the year, an award voted on by an NJCAA committee.
Kirkwood went 31-4 and stopped No. 1-ranked Triton's 30-game winning streak with an 83-76 victory in the national title game on March 20.
'I know how much this program means to this school and to have success like that for this school was good,' Petersen said after the title run.
