Text message prompts search at Midland school

The Midland Community School District is receiving a number of phone calls this morning from people worried about a text message indicating that a gun was stolen from somewhere in the school district, and the possibility someone may bring the gun into a district building.
District superintendent and high school principal Brian Rodenburg would not call the situation a “lockdown," but said the district is implementing an emergency plan which includes all students' bags being searched at the middle/high school. No students have been allowed to lockers yet.
Classes remain in session, and officials had found nothing in their search as of 8:25 a.m.
All doors to the middle/-high school are locked except the front entrance. Anyone who does enter will be searched, Rodenburg said.
The Jones County Sheriff's Office is supervising the plan.
Rodenberg says it is safe for children to attend school today, and the district and authorities are diligently monitoring the situation.
