UPDATE: Officials are investigating a bank robbery in Oxford Junction Wednesday morning that caused nearby schools to undergo a lockdown.
Per Mar Security advised authorities of a bank robbery shortly before 9 a.m. at Citizens State Bank, 101 W. Broadway St. Police said no injuries have been reported. Jones County Deputies responded, and the FBI is currently on scene, authorities said.
Midland Community School District Superintendent Brian Rodenberg said he first became aware of the situation around 9:30 a.m., and because of the two-hour delay due to weather, students at the elementary school in Oxford Junction were just arriving.
"We tried to hurry the kids into the rooms as quickly as we could," Rodenberg said.
The secondary school, located in Wyoming, also instituted a lockdown procedure. There are about 470 students combined in the district's elementary and secondary schools. Rodenberg said the lockdown ended around 10:30 a.m.
"We are keeping the doors locked for the rest of the day," Rodenberg said. "Normally the front doors are open, because we don't have a buzz system. But now it's locked."
