John R. Devaney, 57, of Monticello, died suddenly Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Jones Regional Medical Center. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, with a
parish vigil service at 3 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
John was born Oct. 25, 1957, in Monticello, the son of Robert and Rosemary (Decker) Devaney. He graduated from Monticello High School with the class of 1976 and then attended Kirkwood Community College and Iowa State University. He worked as a repair man.
Surviving are his daughter, Michaela Devaney of Monticello; four grandchildren, Ryanna Devaney, Charly Lloyd, Alyvia Devaney and Isayah Devaney; his father, Robert of Monticello; seven siblings, Beth (Darnell) Porter of Monticello, Patrick Devaney (Kathy Adams) of Center Junction, Karen (Terry) Solomon of Manchester, Tom Devaney (Barb Siefker) of Anamosa, Mike (Doris) Devaney and Diane (Matt) Lund, both of Cedar Rapids, and Jeff (Holly) Devaney of Marion; 17 nieces and nephews, Julie (Matt) Lux, Chris Porter, Scott Porter, Sage (Andy) Miller, Dustin Wilson, Amanda and Ryan Solomon, Ben (Ashley) Devaney, Jordan Devaney, Carly, Jenna and Paige Jennings, Kassidy Devaney and Vanessa Lund, Colin and Haley Gorgen and Tara Devaney; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary; and a sister, Mary Paula.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for John's grandchildren.
John had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
