STANLEY SCHENK
Iowa City
Stanley R. Schenk, 88, longtime Johnson County area farmer, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Mercy in
Iowa City.
He was born Aug. 8, 1926, on the family farm in rural Johnson County, the son of Frank and Connie Schenk. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving during World War II. In April 1957, he married Marie M. Wolf in Marengo, Iowa. He farmed in the area for many years, before his retirement and for a number of years he
worked for the Iowa City Parks and Recreation
Department.
Stanley loved to play cards and care for animals. After retirement, he loved taking car rides out past the old farm and didn't really have much time for the Hawkeyes as he would tell you! For nearly 50 years, he was the caretaker of the Mentzer Cemetery out by his farm.
His family includes a sister, June Eckrich of Muscatine and a number of nieces and nephews.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Marie.
No public services are planned. Burial will take place at the Mentzer Cemetery.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Stanley's family and his arrangements.
