Brandon M. McCullough, 32, passed away May 24, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, at Revolution Church in Vinton with Pastor David Condry officiating.
Brandon Myles McCullough, son of Kimberly McCullough, was born Sept. 20, 1984, in Iowa City, Iowa. As a child, Brandon lived in Garrison before the family moved to Vinton. Brandon attended Washington High School in Vinton before finishing his education at the Denison Job Corps Center in 2001. Brandon again returned to Vinton to be close to family. He then lived in Mapleton, Iowa, for some time and worked as a nursing assistant in long-term care. Brandon resided in Las Vegas, Nev., for a short while before permanently settling in Cedar Rapids.
In 2004, Brandon welcomed a son, Jaxen, to the world. It was quite evident to all those who knew Brandon that Jaxen truly was the apple of his eye. He looked forward to extended visits with him every summer. Brandon was a proud, loving and protective father, son, brother and uncle. The love that he put out to others was undeniable. Brandon was a passionate animal advocate, helping to give all animals a warm and loving home. He had a heart of gold, willing to give a stranger the shirt off his back, or a safe home to friend or family. Brandon had an incredible love for music and art with quite an eclectic taste. He enjoyed sharing music with friends and family, leaving it near impossible for them to change the radio station without hearing something that sparks a memory.
Brandon is survived by his mother, Kimberly McCullough of Cedar Rapids; his son, Jaxen McCullough of Mapleton; his siblings, Brittany McCullough of Cedar Rapids, Breezie (Kordereau) Sellers of Janesville, Wis., Misty (Matt Lloyd) Beltz and Josh (Kristin) Beltz, both of Cedar Rapids, and Amanda (Jimmy) Cuellar of Hobart, Ind.; special friends, Rusty Farace, Tarra Cunningham and Nicole Vanderpool; and a niece, nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and a countless number of friends.
Brandon was preceeded in death by his maternal grandmother and best friend, Barbara Douglas.
