Abortion is not a woman’s right

To the editor:
I noticed that some voters were distressed by the midterm election results. Then I saw that a major source of distress was the misinformation in the campaign ads. It is sad to see how misinformation harms our society.
The misinformation about abortion is particularly harmful. Abortion was called a necessity for women's health. However, on the Internet we can read about abortion's tragic toll on women - their physical health and emotional well-being were damaged by abortion. There are organizations and counselors to help them, but the real necessity for their health was protection from abortion. Abortion was called a religious issue. It is only a religious issue to the extent that Judeo-Christian principles have provided excellent guidance since the founding of our country. However, it is not necessary to have any religious beliefs whatsoever in order to recognize the terrible wrongness of abortion (search the Internet for 'pro-life atheist”).
Abortion was called a woman's right. This is not possible. Protection of our young is a strong driving force of nature. No government has the power to nullify it. No government can prevent the awful consequences of abortion. No government has the authority to call abortion a right. When sorting out abortion information, it is important to consider the source. If the source is someone who is making money on abortion, or who has a political agenda, misinformation will abound. Please don't be misled - the health you save may be your own.
