CEDAR RAPIDS - A shoeless man tried to snatch a strawberry mango pie from a Perkins restaurant in Cedar Rapids, but ended up dropping the dessert as he ran away, police said.
Officers responded around 7:45 a.m. Friday to the Perkins at 315 Collins Rd. NE. Employees said the suspect, one of three men who entered the restaurant, reached over the counter to get the pie and walked out.
Staff members chased him, and he dropped the pie in the parking lot.
The $13 pie was squashed. The suspect got away.
Police said the man was white male with dark hair, around 18 to 20 years old, wearing a purple shirt and gray sweat pants. The case remained open as of Monday.
