New employees
Kyle Galloway (see photo) was hired as chief financial officer of SouthGate Companies. Galloway had been a CPA with McGladrey in Iowa City.
Charles Geyer II (see photo) joined Knutson Construction in Iowa City. Most recently, Geyer worked in North Carolina and in the Quad Cities.
Tanager Place Mental Health Clinic hired Courtney Powers (see photo), as a board-certified behavior analyst and Amber Cook (see photo), as a board-certified music therapist.
Promotions
Courtney Grau (see photo) was named youth ministries director with the Salvation Army in Cedar Rapids. Grau previously worked for the Salvation Army in Indiana.
Kinseth Hospitality Companies promoted Liz Conlon (see photo) to director of sales, for the Holiday Hotel Inn & Conference Center in Coralville. Conlon was formerly catering manager.

Awards
Suzy McGrane-Hop (see photo), a certified fine art appraiser, received the Foundation for Appraisal Education scholarship award in the experienced appraiser category for the advancement of appraisal studies. McGrane-Hop is the owner of Gilded Pear Gallery in Cedar Rapids.
Cat Brown (see photo), broker associate/Realtor with Century 21 Premier Realty in Marion, was awarded the Pacesetter Gold Award, for top achievement for the first half of 2012.
Cambridge Investment Research Inc. reported Investment Advisor magazine has announced Cambridge as 2012 Broker-Dealer of the Year in the division representing independent broker-dealers with more than 1,000 producing advisers.
Seminars
Sean Costigan, Helen Lavoix and Chris Pallaris, experts in technology, political science and commercial intelligence, will lead a panel discussion at Luther College at 7 p.m. Thursday, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. The panel, “Can the Past Predict the Future? (And Why it Matters)” is free to the public.

Dermatologic veterinarians Dr. Craig Griffin and Dr. Wayne Rosenkrantz are conducting controlled trials on Coralville-based Pinnaclife Animal Health Products's animal health product line. Griffin and Rosenkrantz oversaw initial case studies of those products and collaborated with the product's inventor, Darlene McCord of McCord Research, Pinnaclife's parent company.
