Janice Kay Young, 80, of Marengo, died Thursday evening, July 23, 2015, at her home. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo, with the Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial: Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 27, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; a daughter, Vicki (Don) Schafbuch of Marengo; two sons, Douglas (Andrea) Young and Dennis (LeeAnn) Young, both of Platteville, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Travis (Allison) Schlabach, Shannon (Luke) Slockett, Tiffany (Jeff) Simonsen, Chad (Lindsey) Young, Brianne (Shaun) Roberts, Lindsay (Jake) Niebes, Brandon (Katie) Young and Amanda Young; 12 great-grandchildren, Ashlea and Austin Schlabach, Brynlee and Bryar Slockett, Livia, Levi and Myla Roberts, Jack and Hallie Niebes and Jordan, Jaylynn and Madison Young; and a sister, JoAnn (Ron) Dalton of Marengo.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Vance; a grandson, Darin Schlabach; and a sister, Joyce Walters.
Janice Kay Hartz was born April 5, 1935, in Ladora, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Leona Kinzenbaw Hartz. She graduated from Marengo High School with the class of 1953. Janice and Keith Young were united in marriage on Dec. 31, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was a loving wife and mother who managed her home and family, helped with the farm chores, and assisted with the Keith Young and Sons Construction business and Linn County Ready Mix.
Janice was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marengo. She loved music and singing, spending over 30 years as a member of The Believers. She had an extensive raccoon collection. She also enjoyed tending her flower pots and flower beds, and planted the big planter in the park every year.
