Apr. 30, 2016 1:26 pm
IOWA CITY — Billy Taylor, Iowa men's basketball director of operations, has accepted a head coaching position with Division II Belmont Abbey with an upcoming announcement, the Gaston Gazette reported Friday.
Iowa men's basketball spokesman Matt Weitzel confirmed Taylor, 42, has left the program.
Taylor was recruited by and played under Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery when McCaffery was an assistant under John MacLeod at Notre Dame. Taylor then served as an assistant with McCaffery at North Carolina-Greensboro.
As a head coach, Taylor compiled a 68-82 record in five seasons at Lehigh and was 74-99 in six seasons at Ball State. Taylor replaced longtime Iowa director of operations Jerry Strom, who retired in 2013.
Belmont Abbey participates in the Division II Carolinas Conference.
