Karol Anne Horne, 57, of Chelsea, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at her home in Chelsea, surrounded by her family, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A funeral liturgy will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea. Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Karol was born Aug. 26, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John J. and Betty A. (Garringer) Van Dee. She graduated from Marshalltown Community College with a LPN nursing degree. On Nov. 18, 1994, she married Douglas Horne in Vinton. Karol had previously worked at the Super Valu grocery store in Tama.
She enjoyed sewing, camping, bowling, Facebook games and going for car rides with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Karol was a member of Iowa City Moose Lodge Chapter 509.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas of Chelsea; five children, Monica (Lyle Campbell) Plum of Williamsburg, Nicki (Lance) Johannsen of Toledo, Nolan (Jenna Herdlicka) Plum of Montour, Melissa Osipchack of Toledo and Kenneth Osipchack of Chelsea; four grandchildren, Tamara Bendorf, Taylor and Shelby Johannsen and Carlie Herdlicka; her mother, Betty Van Dee of Vining; six siblings, Rick (Sue) Van Dee of Tama, Shirley (Larry) Jacobs of Toledo, B.J. (Dan) Monroe of Iowa City, Rusty (Cindy) Van Dee of Chelsea, Randy (Dena) Van Dee of Brooklyn and Jill Van Dee of Vining; and many nieces and nephews.
Karol was preceded in death by her father, John J. Van Dee; and two brothers, Roger Van Dee and Ryan Van Dee.
