Barbara Ann Merritt, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, from complications of surgery. Services will be private. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Urbana, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Evelyn (Smith) Wright. She worked for Linn County for over 25 years. She enjoyed talking with friends and family on a daily basis. She loved to write poetry and spend many hours in front of art canvas painting.
She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry Merritt of Cedar Rapids and Kevin (Teather) Merritt of Marion; her sister, Betty Olson of Cedar Rapids; and her grandchildren, Jacob Merritt, Isabella Merritt and Jonathan Merritt, all of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Robert Merritt; and her brother, Cecil Wright.
Note she left to her sons: "If you are having a bad day, look at some stranger and smile and say hello. It is amazing how good that will make you feel and also them."
