Marjorie Ann Buntz, 93, of Des Moines, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at Meth-Wick Manor in Cedar Rapids.
Majorie (Marge) was born Jan. 12, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Axel and Anna (Freebeck) Nelson. She lived the majority of her life in Des Moines, graduating from East High School in January 1941. On Jan. 12, 1941, she married Robert Buntz Sr. They were married for 73 years until his death in December 2014.
Following graduation and during World War II, Marge worked at the Rollins Hoisery Mill until it closed and then attended the American Institute of Business in the 1950s. She was an accountant at the Iowa Des Moines National Bank for 12 years and then went to work at Bankers Life for 13 years.
In 1979, she moved to Washington, D.C., with her husband, Bob, who had been elected as an officer in the National Association of Letter Carriers Health Benefit Program. Marge worked at the NALC Insurance agency for eight years before returning to Des Moines in 1987 to retire.
Bob and Marge built a home on Easter Lake and spent many happy years there and several months each winter in Scottsdale, Ariz.
In 2014, after the death of Bob Sr., Marge moved to Cedar Rapids to be close to her family and eventually settled at Meth-Wick Manor.
Marge was a devoted wife and mother. She loved to read, crochet, shop and most of all play the slots at Prairie Meadows. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary and Croation Fraternal Organization.
She is survived by her son, Robert Jr. (Lois); three grandsons, Brad (Deb) Buntz, Joe Hand and Tim (Kelly) Hand; one granddaughter, Becky (Brett) Houdeshell; eight great-grandchildren, Josh, Paige, Logan, Tyler, Jordan, Gracie, Carsyn and Lindsey; brother-in-law, Andrew (Pat) Buntz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Sr.; her sister, Betty; and brothers, Robert and Donald.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd., Des Moines. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., before to the service. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Glendale Cemetery.
