Joseph E. Best, 100, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Visitation will be Sunday, March 8, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joseph Edward Best was born Jan. 6, 1915, to William and Bessie Heither Best in Canton, Mo. He was united in marriage to Marie Best on Sept. 2, 1936, in Burlington, Iowa. They shared 50 wonderful years together. He worked at Rapids Chevrolet as a service manager for over 20 years.
Joseph was a lifelong active member of the Elks Lodge. Joseph was very active up until he was 90 years old, which included being a part of four bowling leagues. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing pool. He formed the Rat Pack pool league at Keystone Place.
Joseph especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He always had a kind word for everyone, positive attitude and lived life to the fullest.
He is survived by his son, Dennis (Rita) Best of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tammi (Bill) Heaton of Cedar Rapids and Kelly Best of Gilbert, Ariz.; great- grandchildren, Brooke and Cody Heaton; special sister-in-law, Joyce Best of Greenville, S.C.; special niece, Jeanne (John) Dunlop of Mesa, Ariz.; and loving nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marie; a sister, Louise Staskal; and two brothers, Wilton and William.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Hiawatha Care Center or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, the staff and nurses at Keystone Cedar and Hiawatha Care Center for their wonderful care.
