Donald J. Christle, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Mercy Hallmar. Private family graveside services will be in Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Donald was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harry and Albia (Kun) Christle. He graduated from Grant High School in 1935. Don was united in marriage to Ludmila Jakubcik on July 27, 1939, in Wisconsin.
He worked at Square D until his retirement in 1979. Don enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. He loved the outdoors, watching sports and spending time with his family. Don was a member of CSA Lodge Prokop Velky 137.
Don is survived by his children, Patricia Hikiji of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie (Ivan) Gardner of Cedar Rapids, Linda (John) Haid of Elgin, Ore., Cindy Christle of Cedar Rapids, and Susan (Steven) Even of Shellsburg; 10 grandchildren, Chris-Ann Hikiji, Lonnie (Lori) Hikiji, Vance (Carolyn) Hikiji, Kathleen Hikiji, Miyoko Hikiji, Kelly Gardner, Jennifer Gardner, Amy (Mark) Michalec, Kevin Haid and Aaron Nelson; and 10 great-grandchildren, Elena, Alyssa, Hannah, Kaylee, Grace, Noelle, Blake, Benjamin, Erica and Alexa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ludmila, who died July 10, 2006; his sister, Leone (Bob) Greene; and a brother, Stanley (Wanda) Christle.
