Edith Marie Smith, 90, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may register after 9 a.m. Interment will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery. The Rev Al Polito will officiate at the services.

Edith Cole was born Dec. 18, 1923, at Gutten-berg, Iowa, to Mike and Addie Chambers Cole. She was the youngest of five children. Edith lost her mother three months after her birth and was raised by her aunt and uncle, Sara and Joe Yonkovic. She grew up with their son, Roy, whom she respected as a brother. Edith worked for many years in Cedar Rapids in the health care profession and as waitress.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Merton and Frank Cole; two sisters, Mable Dettbarn and Hazel Horseman; aunt and uncle, Sara and Joe Yonkovic; and their son, Roy; three husbands, Roy Miller, Leslie Smith and Charles Smith; a son, Daniel; two grandsons, Eddie and Kevin; and her longtime companion, Roger Solam.
Survivors are three daughters, Carol (Richard) Frazier, Marshfield, Mo., Dixie (Jeff) Long, Oskaloosa, and Dana Smith, Cedar Rapids; five sons, Ronald Miller, Cedar Rapids, Roger (Barbara) Miller, Hiawatha, Dennis (Sally) Miller, Milwaukee, Wis., Duane Miller and Dale (Karla) Smith, both of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
