Kathleen Hageman, 89, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where friends may register after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, rural Monticello. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has been entrusted with Kathleen's services.
Surviving are three children, Sandra (Donald) Sternhagen, Marion, Ron (Carol) Hageman, Cedar Rapids, and Karen Bray, Maryville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph; son-in-law, Carl Bray; four sisters, Viola Chapman, Lucille Seehusen, Georgene Brokens and Marie Kreeb; and two brothers, Charlie and Clarence Dempsey.
Kathleen Frances Dempsey was born July 16, 1928, in Castle Grove Township, Jones, County, Iowa. She was the daughter of John (Jack) and Elizabeth Jasper Dempsey. Kathleen graduated from the Hopkinton High School. She then worked for the Hopkinton Leader and later at Kreeb's Dry Cleaners in Dyersville. Kathleen married Ralph Hageman on Aug. 28, 1946, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Hopkinton. The couple farmed near Hopkinton and Monticello. They retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Monticello. In November 1991, they moved to Marion. Ralph preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1991.
Kathleen had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
The family would like to thank Hill Top Manor in Marion, Heritage Specialty Care and St. Luke's Hospice for all the care, comfort and companionship given to Kathleen and her family during her time in their care.
