Dolores "DoDo" L. Fosdick, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Jan. 15, 2016, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, by the Rev.
Chris Podhajsky. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Friends also may visit after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
DoDo is survived by her two daughters, Michele (Jerry) Westrope of Seneca, S.C., and Anita (Mike) Robledo of Downey, Calif.;
three sons, John (Connie) and James (Janet), both of Cedar Rapids, and Michael of Marion; grandchildren, Shelia, Denise, Melissa, Amanda, Joe, Jenny, Jamie and John; and great-grandchildren, Hayli, Luke, Samantha, Danielle, Isabella, Gavin and Makayla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; a son, Tom, in 2010; and granddaughters, Angie Shevik and Katrina Robledo. DoDo also was preceded in death by her "adopted sister," Mary Ashby, with whom she shared the life of motherhood through times of joy, sorrow and the loss of their husbands.
Dolores Lucille was born May 21, 1930, in Des Moines, the daughter of S. Glenn and Frances Shuster West. She attended North High School and then Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines. She married Leonard M. Fosdick on Sept. 27, 1952, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Des
Moines. Leonard died
in 1994. She worked for Mercy Hospital as an RN, then as head nurse for the newborn nursery from 1965 to 1985.
DoDo was a consummate caregiver, providing tremendous love to her husband, family and all the young moms and babes who were in her care.
The family wishes to express their utmost gratitude to Dee Montgomery for enriching DoDo's final years, and the staff of Keystone Cedars, Hospice of Mercy and Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the tremendous professional and compassionate care they provided DoDo while she was in their care.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
