Nancy Slouha, 77, of Oxford Junction, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Oxford Junction. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Burial will be at the Mayflower Cemetery.
Nancy Joan was born Nov. 17, 1937, to parents George and Joyce (Jones) Buresh in Oxford Junction. She attended country school in Oxford Mills until the age of 12, moving to Mechanicsville and graduating with the class of 1956. She attended Paris Academy for hair in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to Donald Slouha on Dec. 28, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Mechanicsville. She and Donald moved to the family century farm after his tour of duty with the U.S. Army and farmed until his death in 2003.
She was a homemaker, past 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where she served as a past president and treasurer of WELCA, member of Lilac No. 825 Royal Neighbors and Oxford Homemakers Club. She was an Avon dealer for 17 years and worked 11 years at the O.J. Convenience Store and for several years as a waitress.
Nancy took great pride in her Czech heritage, cooking and baking kolaches and sharing with friends. Her hobbies included cake decorating, gardening, flowers and reading.
Nancy took great pride in her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Nancy is survived by her children, Donna (James) Palmer of Wellman, Karen (Jerimy) Robertson of Lone Tree and Danny (Jamie) Slouha of Oxford Junction; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and her sister, Virginia (Richard) Pace of Wyoming, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her son, Gary Dean; parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Memorials are preferred.
