Merrill Glenn Johnson, 84, of Eastvale, Calif., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016. A veterans memorial service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in California at a date to be determined.
Survivors include his daughter, Merrilee Copelan, brother, Wendall Johnson; sister, Pam Wobbeking; and grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Copelan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; and his mother and father, Leicester and Audrey.
Merrill was born Nov. 29, 1932, in Lacey, Iowa. He resided in Shellsburg and graduated from Woolstock High in 1950. He married Nola Angeline Woodford on March 1, 1953. They celebrated 60 years of marriage until Nola's passing. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War. He continued his education at Coe College and earned a B.A. degree in 1959. Merrill moved to California with Nola and succeeded in the banking industry.
He was loved and survived by many friends and close family.
We have peace knowing he is reunited with Nola and his heavenly family.
