A Dewitt man faces domestic abuse and child endangerment charges after he allegedly punched a woman as she held their three-year-old daughter at an Iowa City home.
Records indicate that Michael S. Tomek, 41, of 1549 Silver Valley Dr., became involved in a verbal argument with the woman while she held their daughter at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities say Tomek took the woman's phone away from her after learning that the she was using it to record what was being said during the argument.
When the woman tried to retrieve the phone, Tomek allegedly punched her and grabbed her face, causing lacerations and a bloody nose, Iowa City police said.
Tomek was released from the Johnson County Jail Wednesday after posting $5,000 bond.
Domestic abuse assault without intent causing injury is a serious misdemeanor. Child endangerment without injury is an aggravated misdemeanor.
