Ann Lynn Tompkins, 74, died peacefully Friday, March 25, 2016, at Lantern Park Care Center.
A gathering to celebrate Ann's life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service in Coralville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mercy Hospital Foundation or American Heart Association – Go Red for Women, Johnson County Chapter.
Ann was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Des Moines, the daughter of Willard and Catherine Watts Tompkins. She was raised in Whitefish Bay, Wis.
She received her bachelor's degree from Bucknell University and her master's in English from the University of Iowa. At the age of 50, Ann changed careers and received her juris foctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law.
Ann was in corporate marketing for 27 years before joining Gruhn law firm in Cedar Rapids. She has lived in Coralville since 1999 and was a member of the Noon Pilot Club of Johnson County, a volunteer at SCORE business counseling and active in many other charitable and service organizations. She was an avid reader.
Even with her health issues, Ann lived life to the fullest.
Survivors include Ann's sister, Sally and her companion, Howard Breeden, of Madison, Ind.; and her son, Andrew and his wife, Gail, and their children, Alexander and Madeline, of Indianapolis; Ann's brother, W. Jay Tompkins III of Florida and his two children, Sarah Tompkins and Thomas Tompkins.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew, Ethan Wurtz.
