Michael "The Mangler" Kacher Sr., 61, passed away
after a long battle with lung cancer on April 9, 2017, at
the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 23, at The Eagles Club,
1735 11th St. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
Mike was born Oct. 30, 1955, the son of
DeVeer and Arlene (Feiereisen) Kacher, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Prairie
High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1975. He married
Ann Rude in 1979 and they later
divorced.
Mike worked for Cedar Memorial Funeral Home as a groundskeeper until he was no longer able. He was an active member of AMVETS Post 6 and an avid Green
Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins fan. He had a huge
love for cars and racing and raced at Hawkeye Downs
when it was still a dirt track. He also enjoyed golf and playing cards with his close friends.
He will be remembered most for his love of life and
his unflappable sense of humor. More than anything,
Mike loved spending time with his family, his dog,
Shubert, and especially his grandson, Thaddeus.
Survivors include his loving partner of more than 20 years, Sharon Heins; son, Michael Kacher Jr.;
daughter, Hanna (Aaron) McDowell; grandson,
Thaddeus McDowell; his mother, Arlene Kacher;
brother, Larry (Peggy) Kacher; sister, Rita (Herb)
Mangler; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, DeVeer
Kacher Sr.
Memorials may be directed to AMVETS Post 6 or the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in memory of Mike.
