WERNER (BILL) DEWAYNE SCHWITZER
Cedar Rapids
Werner (Bill) DeWayne Schwitzer, 98, of Minnetonka, Minn., and formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed in the care of hospice on Nov. 30, 2020, following an enduring illness.
Born to William and Alma Schwitzer in Clinton and raised in Tipton.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings; an infant child, Gerald; his wife of 62 years, Helen; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Gisvold Schwitzer.
A private family Celebration of Life will take place. He will be buried next to Helen in Cedar Memorial Park. Memorials should be directed to the donor's charity of choice.
Werner embraced a Christian life after moving to Cedar Rapids with Helen, remaining devout the rest of his days. In 1946, he became Skogman Homes first employee after the business relocated from Omaha. He remained with the Skogman's for 50 years and was instrumental in mentoring a generation of the company's leadership.
His love of family and friends sustained him. Traveling, dancing and laughing invigorated him. His grandchildren brought him unceasing joy.
Werner is survived by his son, Dr. Kent Schwitzer of Minnetonka; and his four granddaughters, Alyssa (Elizabeth Hanson) Schwitzer, Erica Schwitzer, Claire (Michael Hupp) Schwitzer, all of the Twin Cities area, and Dr. Emily Schwitzer of Los Angeles. Soli Deo gloria!
