Penford wants to buy city's Riverside Park, including skate park
Dec. 7, 2011 1:30 pm
Penford Products Co. wants to buy the city's Riverside Park and the skate park located there to support the company's plans to grow.
Tim Kortemeyer, president of Penford, made a letter public on Wednesday that he has sent to City Hall formally requesting the purchase of the park next door to the Penford plant, which is on First Street SW.
At Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, Mayor Ron Corbett made note that the council would hold a public hearing in January on Penford's request to buy the park.
The city is in the process of seeking proposals to sell the former site of the 1st Community Credit Union across from Penford, and Corbett noted that those submitting proposals for the site needed to be made aware of Penford's plans to buy the nearby park.
