Robert J. Gudenkauf, 76, of Dyersville, Iowa, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his home in Dyersville.
Friends and relatives of Robert may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m., the Farley Fire Department will meet as a body at 6 p.m., and the American Legion Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Services for Robert will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, with the Rev. Dennis Quint presiding. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, where full military honors will be afforded by the Dyersville American Legion Post 137.
Robert was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Monticello, Iowa, son of Joseph C. and Mae C. (Slauson) Gudenkauf. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School in Worth-ington, Iowa. On Nov. 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Dolan at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti, Iowa. He was employed as a union carpenter in Cedar Rapids until 1975, when he then took over the family farm, until his retirement in 2009.
He enjoyed wood-working and bowling.
He was a veteran, having served in the Marine Corps all over the Far East from 1956 to 1958. He was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Worthington, Dyersville American Legion Post 137 and the Monticello Knights of Columbus Council 01821.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Gudenkauf of Dyersville, Iowa; seven children, Lisa (Robert) Maiers of Earlville, Iowa, Jolene (Dan) Givant of Des Moines, Iowa, Roger (Tina) Gudenkauf and Mary Kay (Jeff) Moore, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ann Marie (Rick) Kurland of San Antonio, Texas, Mike (Cindy) Gudenkauf of Farley, Iowa, and Don (Angie) Gudenkauf of Coggon, Iowa; 16 grand-children; one great-grandson; and his siblings, Elaine Weber of Dyersville, Iowa, Ronald (Alice) Gudenkauf of New Vienna, Iowa, Marion (LeRoy) Hildebrand of Earlville, Iowa, and Ardan (Jane) Gudenkauf of Dyersville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Dennis R. Gudenkauf.
