Jeremy Patterson Moving Co. is moving the F.B. Mills Seed Company building on the outskirts of Washington, Iowa, to downtown Washington next week. Move is scheduled for Feb. 22-26.
It's a three-story, 11,072-ton structure – one of the biggest, if not the biggest the company has moved.
It is a turn-of-the-20th-century building that was going to be torn down.
Instead, Patterson is moving it to Washington's downtown for loft apartments above and commercial area below. The building has been vacant for 25 years, but will be put back on the tax rolls, plus they won't be sending all that demolition material to the dump, Patterson said.
