Larry John Anderson, 68, of Perry, Mo., passed away at 9:05 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clifford Melvin and Emma Arlene Freeman Anderson. He was married to Sandra Kaye Soper on Sept. 29, 1972, in Olin. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Kel (Cara) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Gary Anderson of Cedar Rapids; one brother-in-law, Gary (Karen) Soper of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Debbie (Jerry) Durgin of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from March 21, 1968, to March 24, 1974, attaining the rank of specialist 5. He received a Bronze Star. He and his wife moved to the Perry area 12 years ago following his retirement from serving as postmaster in Fayette. He had worked for the government for over 30 years. They worked as gatekeepers at the Ray Behrens Campground for three years and then at Timber Ridge for several years.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in Iowa. The family was assisted by Bienhoff Funeral Home.
