Marilyn Lois Cech, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Anderson Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel.
Marilyn was born Nov. 3, 1931, in North English, the daughter of Lynn and Mary (Heald) Turnipseed. She graduated from Cedar Rapids McKinley High School, Class of 1949. Marilyn was united in marriage to Elmer Cech on April 24, 1950. She worked in the business office at College Community schools from 1962 to 1996.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Randy (Nancy) Cech of Altoona, Jackie (John) Newman of Mount Vernon and Justine (Keith) Schulte of Ely; grandchildren, T.J. (Jerica Deitrick) Wilson, Corey (Dee) Cech, Jody Kintzel, Erin (Willie) Swanson, Tracey Cech (Andrew Peacock), Andrew Newman, John (Katie) Newman Jr. and Lizi (Jeff) Ehman; nine great-grandchildren, Javan, Chloe, L.J., Hallie, Hannah, Kaylee, Kyle, Kadie and Emily; her brothers, Lynn (Kathy) Turnipseed and Arthur (Mary) Turnipseed; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Elmer.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer's Association or the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library in her name.
