Lorna Kathryn Smith, 88, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Mentzer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pioneer Park Care Center.
Lorna was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Iowa City, the daughter of Charles and Stella Mougin Hall. She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School. On June 27, 1946, Lorna married Charles Smith.
Lorna owned Smith and Company. She retired in 1988. Lorna was a member of St. Patrick's Church, VFW Auxiliary 3949 and the Iowa City Women's Bowling Association. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, cards and dancing. Most important to Lorna was her family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at Pioneer Park.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Earl) Hull, Marlene (Steve) Fuhrmeister, Charles "Chuck" (Cheryl) Smith Jr., Connie (Steve) Gardner, Lorna Kaye (JB) Petsel, Julie Blakley (Jim Hanson), Rodney (Carolyn) Smith and Gary (Ginelle) Smith; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margie (Daniel) Duffey and Marlene (Keith) Stevens; sister-in-law Isabelle Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1990; and her parents.
