MARY "JOYCE" FARRINGTON

Mary "Joyce" Farrington, 89, of Olin, died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at the Anamosa Care Center. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsville. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Joyce was born Dec. 29, 1930, on the family homestead farm near Olin. She was the daughter of Samuel "U.S." and Myrtle (Jackson) Farrington. She attended Evergreen Country School and graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1948. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
Joyce cared for her mother until she passed away in 1993. She continued to stay on the farm and was willing to help wherever she could. She was an avid reader, always wanting to learn. She enjoyed vegetable gardening and canned many fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed being in the timber looking for hickory nuts and finding morel mushrooms. She loved nature, being outside, watching the birds and the leaves turning color in the fall.
Surviving Joyce are her two sisters, June Garton of Anamosa and Norma Wilson of Puyallup, Wash.; one brother, Wayne (Judy) Farrington of Australia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; special friend, Melvin Thiering; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Helen Farrington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alta Mae and Ron Gilbert and Ferne and Chester Eales; brothers-in-law, Darrel Garton and Bob Wilson; nephew, Steve Farrington; and great-nephew, Wyatt Farrington.
Memorials are suggested to the Mechanicsville Ambulance.
